Gender equality
A proactive policy to promote gender equality
France Médias Monde is a group strongly committed to gender equality. RFI, France 24 and MCD are aware of their responsibility to raise awareness among their audiences around the world, and are working to improve the representation of women on their channels and defend women’s rights every day. In line with the values defended in the programmes it offers, the Group has an internal policy resolutely committed to gender equality.

Equal representation on the air
With nearly 50% women, RFI and France 24’s studios have equal representation of men and women. The Group’s media teams are working hard to increase the number of female experts on their platforms, and they reached 38% female experts and other contributors in 2024 (+8 points since 2016). This result reflects the efforts made by the teams despite the external difficulties sometimes encountered (self-censorship on the part of some women, issues of availability with invitations often made on the same day, time constraints for certain programmes, etc.). France Médias Monde has set up partnerships to continue to improve the presence of female experts: use of directories of female experts made available by associations (Expertes.fr; 2GAP collective; etc.), training (in particular through the FMM Academy, a partner of the Women’s Forum), etc.
France Médias Monde is also particularly vigilant when it comes to equality ‘behind the camera’. Women are in the majority behind the camera when it comes to France 24’s major reports, with 49% produced by women alone and 10% by male/female pairs, while at RFI, 48% of reporters are women.
Women’s rights, on France Médias Monde’s airwaves every day
Throughout the year, RFI, France 24 and MCD broadcast a wide range of programmes and topics promoting women’s rights. FMM media outlets offer dedicated events in all languages, such as France 24’s pioneering programme ‘The 51%’ (which is also available in English, Arabic and Spanish). Numerous programmes from the three media outlets regularly deal with women’s rights, such as ‘Reporters’ or ‘Focus’ on France 24, ‘Priorité Santé’ or ‘8 millards de voisins’ on RFI, ‘L’air du temps’ or ‘Magazine Société’ on MCD. Dedicated programmes also exist in the Group’s foreign languages, particularly African ones, such as ‘Rayuwata’ on RFI in Hausa and ‘Espace femmes’ on RFI in Mandingo and Fula, etc.
The Group’s media outlets also offer special days on major international news events (the situation of women and girls in Afghanistan or Iran, the war in Ukraine, etc.) or in conjunction with dedicated international days (International Women’s Day on 8 March; International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on 25 November, etc.)
Within the organisation, a company committed to gender equality
In line with the values promoted on its channels, the Group is pursuing a very proactive human resources policy in favour of gender equality in the workplace.
In 2024, France Médias Monde achieved the near-maximum score of 99/100 in the workplace equality index, dropping one point due to pay differentials in favour of women.
The company has equal numbers of women and men in its workforce (51%), including in management positions: 55% of journalistic executives are women, and both the company’s executive committee and the administrative board have equal representation of men and women.
