Education and young people

Media outlets that listen to the younger generation and help to share knowledge

France Médias Monde is increasingly targeting younger generations, who make up a very large proportion of its audience, particularly in Africa and the Arab world. The Group’s media outlets offer a wide range of dedicated programmes for young people and are present in all the audience areas where young people are found. As an international public service, FMM is also committed to education and the sharing of knowledge.

Media outlets in tune with younger generations

France Médias Monde’s media outlets are increasingly targeting young people: half of RFI and France 24’s audiences in Africa are under 35, as is the case in the Arab world. The group offers programmes aimed specifically at young people, such as ‘Pas2Quartier (France 24), ‘Légendes urbaines(RFI and France 24), ‘Alors on dit quoi? (RFI in French and African languages). Numerous programmes produced by African-language newsrooms are also designed primarily for young people. The FMM media outlets also have a strong presence on social networks such as TikTok and Instagram, where young people congregate and where RFI, France 24, MCD, ENTR and InfoMigrants offer content suited to their habits: vertical formats such as mobile video, stories, podcasts, etc.

ENTR: the 100% video, 100% social media offering for young Europeans

France Médias Monde has developed ‘ENTR’, a 100% video 100% social media offering aimed at young Europeans. Available in ten languages (French, English, German, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Dutch, Bulgarian, Hungarian and Slovak), it is available exclusively on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook and ‘X’. The editorial team of journalists, who are the same age as the audience and based in Paris, work with the editorial offices of the various partner countries (around ten European media outlets, including FMM’s German counterpart, Deutsche Welle). Each week, ENTR takes an interactive approach to themes that are important to young people: the environment, work, gender, sexuality, freedoms, travel, housing and more. The offering, launched in 2021, has proven to be a great success, with 91 million videos streamed in 2024.

A driving force for media and information literacy

France Médias Monde has a long-standing commitment to Media and Information Literacy (MIL) for students and teachers in France and abroad. Every year, the Group takes part in the Press and Media in Schools Week organised by the French Education Ministry. Many of the Group’s journalists give talks in classrooms to raise awareness of the fight against fake news, press freedom, the workings of a newsroom and the journalism profession. FMM also opens its doors to school groups throughout the year for immersive sessions in its multilingual media outlets. The group also hosts MIL training courses for teachers, in conjunction with the French Ministry of Education and the CLEMI (Centre for Media and Information Literacy). To carry out its MIL initiatives abroad, the Group capitalises on its long-standing partnerships with the Agence française pour l’enseignement à l’étranger (AEFE — The French school system abroad) and the Mission laïque française (MLF — French Secular mMission), which enable it to work with students and teachers in the network of French secondary schools abroad.

A number of dedicated programmes (‘Truth or Fake, ‘The Observerson France 24 and ‘Les dessous de l’Infox or ‘L’Atelier des médias on RFI) also provide their global audiences with an in-depth analysis current affair and the media with a step back.

FMM contributes to Lumni, the public broadcasting educational offering

France Médias Monde is taking part in Lumni, the French public service’s educational offering. France 24 and RFI broadcast the ‘knowledge’ content offered by its media outlets, enabling pupils and teachers to tackle international news in a wide range of subjects, including history, geography and economic and social sciences, as well as modern languages (thanks to the resources offered by FMM in foreign languages). FMM programmes dedicated to the fight against fake news are also available on Lumni (such as ‘Info ou Intoxfrom France 24).
