Financing
A global public service broadcasting group financed by French citizens
France Médias Monde is financed by the allocation of a fraction of the proceeds from value added tax (VAT). This method of financing accounts for 90% of FMM’s total annual budget and amounts to €273.1 million in 2026.
The rest of its budget comes from:
Official Development Assistance from the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs (programme 209) for the launch of new local projects abroad (hubs in Dakar, Beirut and Bucharest) and to support the group in a particularly challenging international context. This additional funding amounts to €14.9 million in 2026.
External funding to develop new projects from the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) Group to strengthen RFI’s African languages through the ‘Afri’Kibaaru’ project; and from the European Union (development of ENTR and InfoMigrants). These external resources make up around 3% of FMM’s total budget.
Advertising resources (2% of the Group’s resources), which are limited by the very nature of FMM’s multilingual news media and their global nature in a fragmented advertising landscape.
Rigorous management
As a public service company, France Médias Monde contributes to the common effort to control public spending.
France Médias Monde’s governance bodies, particularly the Audit Committee and the Administrative Board, closely monitor this policy of rigorous management.
