A website that provides reliable and verified news for and about migrants
InfoMigrants is a news website for migrants wherever they may be: in their country of origin, on the road, or already in the countries where they hope to build a new life. Because people stay in touch with the rest of the world via smartphones and social networks, the website has been specially designed for mobile use. Available in French, English, Arabic, Pashto, Dari and Bengali, it aims to provide verified and balanced news.
As the result of a collaboration led by three major European media sources (France Médias Monde, Deutsche Welle and the Italian news agency ANSA), InfoMigrants was created in 2017 to fight against the false information generated by smugglers in particular. The website is not intended to encourage or discourage migrants, but to help limit the increase in the number of tragedies taking place on our own doorsteps and in our own countries. This offering is co-financed by the European Union.

All the latest news on migration
Topics are specially produced by InfoMigrants’ editorial teams, but are also included in existing feeds produced by France Médias Monde (France 24 and RFI in particular) or Deutsche Welle and ANSA: news from countries of origin, news from transit countries and news from countries of arrival, including debates on the reception of migrants in European countries.
Understanding destination countries
The culture and customs of host countries are covered in societal articles, dealing for example with the status of women, schools, secularism and the place of religion in society… A section devoted to practical information directs readers to a selection of institutional information service websites for migrants (administrative procedures, legal information, NGOs, health, rights and duties of people awaiting refugee status, etc.), which InfoMigrants is not intended to cover.
Balanced news
While portraying the real difficulties involved in receiving migrants, InfoMigrants aims to provide balanced news through reports that portray exemplary people or tell the story of humanist and supportive actions.
Personal stories
The participatory dimension of InfoMigrants is very important, as it enables to communicate with people who would otherwise be unreachable. The testimonies of departing migrants describing their experience of the exile journey, the difficulties they have encountered and the pitfalls they have fallen into are very powerful, and work better at getting the message across than an official communication or a news article. It is unprecedented to find so many strong and raw accounts of migration verified by journalists.
