A group committed to tackling the climate emergency
France Médias Monde works on a daily basis to keep its global audiences informed about ecological and environmental issues. It is aware of the environmental impact of its activities and is taking steps to reduce it in line with its news remit. Convinced of the importance of working together to make a success of the ecological transition, France Médias Monde also supports the other players in its ecosystem in tackling environmental issues.
Identified as a priority in the Group’s CSR strategy, this environmental strategy is formalised in a cross-functional, participative roadmap that reaffirms the Group’s three key priorities for tackling the ecological emergency by 2028: informing, transforming and supporting.
Media outlets working to cover environmental issues on a daily basis, in 21 languages and on five continents
Faced with the current crises and upheavals, France Médias Monde’s media outlets are committed to journalism that is up to the challenge of the ecological emergency. As signatories of the eponymous Charter, RFI, France 24 and MCD are working together to provide daily, cross-disciplinary coverage of environmental issues. Complementing this, some pioneering and specialised programmes, such as ‘C’est pas du vent’ on RFI, are helping to expand knowledge and highlight mitigation and adaptation solutions. In all the newsrooms, journalists are gradually being trained in these issues and their organisation is taking into account the desire to make the environment a prism for the topics broadcast on the airwaves, following the example of the climate-environment department set up in 2024 at RFI.
A group committed to its ecological transition
As a public service media company, France Médias Monde has a duty to set an example and to apply the values defended on its airwaves in its operations.
On a day-to-day basis, the Group strives to reduce its environmental impact while ensuring that its news assignments are carried out smoothly. By monitoring its carbon footprint, France Médias Monde is developing and implementing an ecological transition plan to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions associated with its activities over the coming years. Numerous projects are underway to achieve these decarbonisation objectives and adapt our employees’ working environment to the Group’s environmental ambitions.
This transition is intended to be a collective one, with participative CSR governance, a gradual transformation of our businesses and habits, and constant attention to the needs of our highly committed employees. There are useful resources and a wide range of in-house initiatives to raise awareness of ecological issues is being carried out to support this collective transition as effectively as possible.
Supporting players in the ecosystem in their eco-responsible approach
Convinced of the importance of working together to make a success of the ecological transition, France Médias Monde supports the other players in its ecosystem in tackling environmental issues. As a media group, the support we provide includes partnerships with events that are moving the ecological agenda forward, the broadcasting of campaigns to raise awareness of environmental issues offered to associations committed to the ecological transition, and support for collaborative projects that give a voice to people warning of the consequences of climate change.
The company is also developing a responsible purchasing approach with its service providers and suppliers, which are essential links in its decarbonisation strategy (as such, the Group has adhered to the Responsible Supplier Relations and Purchasing Charter since 2023).
Finally, as solidarity between players in the broadcasting sector is also key to the success of the transition, France Médias Monde is actively involved in sharing tools and best practice between French and international media outlets, both public and private.
Commitments formalised in the environmental roadmap
France Médias Monde has formalised all its commitments up to 2028 in a document that has been made public, focusing on 3 main areas:
- Inform, through daily, multilingual coverage of environmental issues on 5 continents
- Transforming itself as a company to be part of the ecological transition
- Supporting all the players in our ecosystem in their eco-responsible approach.
This environmental strategy has been developed in a participatory manner with all FMM departments involved in these issues. It also takes into account the expectations expressed by internal employees, notably through the CSR Steering Committee set up by the Group, which brings together representatives from all its departments. The strategy was presented to the company’s Social and Economic Committee (CSE) and to the Administrative Board, and will be monitored on an annual basis.
