RFI România expands coverage of Moldova on air and online

RFI România has launched a new daily 30-minute programme in Romanian, focused on news from the Republic of Moldova. Titled ‘Moldova Zoom’, the show broadcasts Monday to Friday at 10:15 am (Chișinău time). This new programme is accompanied by a new ‘Moldova’ section on the RFI România YouTube page, complementing the channel’s existing presence on Facebook (via the RFI Moldova page), TikTok, and on the radio’s website, which already features a section dedicated to Moldovan news. This editorial expansion and increased digital presence aim to strengthen access to professional, balanced, and independent information for listeners and online users in the region, where RFI România enjoys a strong audience and high credibility.

In addition to its six Romanian frequencies, RFI România is broadcast in the Moldovan capital on 107.3 FM, and Valeria Viţu, a Chișinău-based correspondent, covers daily news from the country in the station’s news bulletins. To further support the editorial expansion focused on Moldova the new programme ‘Moldova Zoom’, Valeria Viţu coordinates a team of four correspondents, further expanding RFI România’s presence throughout Moldova. This initiative is also supported by the RFI România team based in Bucharest, within the ‘Central and Eastern Europe Hub of France Médias Monde.

 

New programme: ‘Moldova Zoom’ 

Airing on RFI România from Monday to Friday at 10:15 am (Chișinău time), ‘Moldova Zoom’ is a current affairs programme dedicated to the Republic of Moldova. The show features a 15-minute in-depth interview (‘The guest of the day”), complemented by field reports and expert analysis. Each day, ‘Moldova Zoom’ covers major political, economic, and social issues in Moldova, at the national, regional, and European levels. To address topics related to disinformation, RFI România’s editorial teams will rely on the expertise of specialised editorial units at the France Médias Monde headquarters.

The programme is hosted by Lina Grâu, an independent Moldovan journalist, and international affairs specialist who previously worked for several years at Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) in Chișinău.

The programme is also available as a podcast on RFI România’s digital platforms (website and mobile app), as well as on Spotify, which is particularly popular in Moldova.

Partnership with Deutsche Welle

This enhancement of RFI România’s offerings for and about Moldova is being carried out in coordination with Deutsche Welle, which also has Romanian-language production capabilities and correspondents based in Moldova. Video content and reports will be further enriched within the framework of this partnership in the coming weeks.

 

France Médias Monde newsrooms mobilised

As with previous elections in Europe (Greece, Romania, Poland, Germany…), the legislative elections in Moldova will receive extensive coverage across France Médias Monde’s media outlets. During the last week of September, RFI’s newsrooms in French and other foreign languages will be particularly mobilised. Correspondents, special envoys, and regional experts will produce reports, interviews, and insightful analysis to provide in-depth, on-the-ground insights.

Meanwhile, France 24 will cover the elections in English, French, Arabic, and Spanish, reporting from the voting process to the results, as well as producing reports that provide key insights into the issues at stake. Monte Carlo Doualiya, France Médias Monde’s Arabic-language radio, will also keep its listeners informed with comprehensive election coverage.
